Journey
22:40 left Dover railway station on Saxon way in direction of Folkstone.
It was a full moon and clear sky
so sleapt on cliff top (TR 2670 3860). Was cold but had some interesting dreams.
Woke at dawn and had breakfast at overlooking Folkstone town.
From here walked along ridge to channel terminal approx 4 km distance.
At trig point on Castle Hill (TR 2135 3789) above tunnel entrance I could see:
- Outer 12 foot high wire fence topped with barbed wire.
- Then a perimiter road with patrolling security guards looking for sings of exit.
- Then an inner fence 12 foot high anti climb fence.
- Next a 50 metre grass buffer zone with many fixed infra-red cctv.
- and finally 6 foot wire fence before railway track.
- Also spotted 1 panable cctv overlooking tunnel entrance.
Train types observed entering and exiting tunnel:
- Passenger trains on main track.
- Freight trains on main track.
- Car carrying trains with sealed carriages on sidings.
- Commerical vehicle carrying trains with lattice open carriages on sidings.
Then walked further along ridge to over look power distribution centre.
From here I could see:
- Outerfence is 12 foot barbed wire topped.
- Then perimitere road.
- Then 100 metre grass buffer zone but no cctv.
- Then 6 foot wire fence to railway track.(security appears to be for catching arrivals not departures here trains mainly accelerating too fast to board).
Moved along ridge a little more and observed:
- That there is service bridge for transporting arriving cars out of loading area. Here the trains are still slow when pulling away.
- There is a good place to hide and wait to board train under service ramp.
- Also good bush cover in buffer zone en router from perimeter.
- Possible risk on being spotted by commerical driver when bording train. Suggest get underneath commerical vehicle asap once on carriage.
Then walked further along ridge to pillbox (TR 1932 3819)(on 190 degrees bearing from tescos).
This is a good shelter for enteraining arriving or departing guests.
If in need of supplies go to Sainsburys (TR 2179 3755) - its closer than Tesco(TR 1925 3700).
Walked much further in straight line over private land
to freight depot - bumped into game keaper on the way
friendly but armed.
At Dollands Moore frieght depot (TR 1738 3712) observed:
- Single 9 foot high spiked metal fence.
- Many fixed cctv.
- Very few trains.
Conclusion
It would be very possible to approach Terminal from northern ridge,
scale or tunnel under outer fence,
then crawl using bushes for cover to hiding spot under bridge.
Here one could wait for good moment to climb on commercial vehicle train.
Lookout on ridge with radio link could be very useful.
Could be done with minimal equipment:
- Dark tracksuit.
- Dark base ball cap.
- Shoes.
- Dried fruit.
Dollands Moore freight depot seems waste of time.
