Around her eightieth birthday, my grandmother expressed a wish to once again (and this time together with me) visit her birthplace, a village called Primišlje, situated in Kordun, now in the neighbouring country of Croatia. She left Primišlje at the age of fourteen, just before the start of the Second World War, shortly followed by her family, and had not returned for 45 years.
In the meantime, one more war devastated the region.
Soon after my grandmother expressed her wish to return, we were on the way to Primišlje, guided by her stories...
