FAMILY BACKGROUND Rachel Baker grew up on a rural council estate on Dartmoor into a family of teachers with a tradition of Liberalism and emancipation through education.


EDUCATION Ms Baker took a masters degree at Goldsmiths college in Design Futures, a pioneering course that formed a 'thinktank' of people interested in radical design for society.


CAREER Various careers as a tall-building window cleaner. a receptionist and telephone operator led to a post as a director for the Culture and Technology Alliance, a position from which she now hopes to lead the borough of Cramley


INTERESTS A parallel career in the City as a Futures manager has established a small fortune with which she is setting up an investment fund for artists and cultural ventures.
